It’s nearly over for another four years. I don’t know about you, but in the normal course of life I wouldn’t watch badminton, dressage or synchronized swimming if someone held an anti-aircraft missile to my head. Why change now?
But occasionally the Olympics throw up a luminous moment. Here’s my number one moment from the last thirty years. This from a tour the year after the Moscow Olympics

And here’s one you’ll never see again: I think it’s a shame this was banned. If a girl can do this standing on a high bar, what’s not to get a gold medal for?
I also liked this from Myndi Shafer: she’s right, you know. Even the guy who just got lapped three times by Usain Bolt in the 100 metres is at least twice as fast as you and me.
In other news: you should check this out from Piper Bayard. After Roni Loren’s run-in with a lawsuit, there will be a more than a few of these guys out there.
Did you know there have been thirty five NEW words added to the Oxford dictionary this year. Every writer should know them so they can use them in sentences like: “Chillax. He may be droolworthy and wear guyliner and a mankini but it’s just a bromance - we’re not sexting or anything.” See the rest of the new words here.
Did you know there’s a comic strip for authors? (No, not ‘Earning Peanuts’.) It’s called Will Write for Chocolate. Check it out here:
Today’s challenge is to be happy! Here’s a head start: I really like ‘Social Media Explained.’
And finally: as we bid a tearful farewell to the Olympics, let’s laugh along with those who uphold the other other Olympic motto: ‘the important thing is not to win, but to hurt yourself badly and fail.’ It’s very funny if you’re not the one falling off the balance beam or getting pushed into the river.
