I encourage people to email me and so I get questions. So I thought I’d paraphrase and answer some of them here. This week’s questions are from Seattle, Melbourne and Calgary. A cosmopolitan mix!
Q: I bought all your books in the UK and loved them and then I couldn’t find them any more. (Where did you go??)
A: I’d been writing for 15 years and never once got ‘writer’s block.’ Not ever! Then something happened in my real life that blew me out of the water. By the time I got back to being able to write again, I had to start over. I got a big fat contract and wrote a couple of great books. (See the reviews here.) Then everyone at the company left, and my books were orphaned. So I had to start over a second time. But you can find the books in the UK here and here, or as eBooks anywhere else - here and here - and I hope to announce my resurrection in the UK in January. You’ll soon be able to get my historical fiction with Lake Union, and get all my books in print in the UK except for the Lachlan McKenzie series I’m doing with CoolGus.
Q: I’m not on Facebook just email. So why did you start the Facebook Falconer Club?
A: Because I want to interact with my readers. I feel that a lot of emails these days just end up in someone’s junk folder. I want to know what readers are thinking - good and bad - and I like to reward faithful rewards with free stuff. The Falconer Club gives me just that opportunity.
You can still email me for updates! But for better or worse, most people like Facebook these days - they can log on whenever they want and read what they want, when they want to.
Q: I really like Black Witch of Mexico, but most of your books are HF. Why do you write in so many genres?
A: Because I’m crazy! In the early days I suppose I thought I could do anything. These days I am more conscious of my readers and try to make sure I do not disappoint, but keeping to genres that my readers like. For example, I write contemporary HF for Lake Union, an historical series for CoolGus.
Black Witch was an exception - I unpublished it because it was out of genre, but re-released when some readers told me how much they liked it. But I am going to stick to my genres in future …
I’ve got a few more questions but I’ll save them for next week. Meanwhile, if you’d like to ask anything, you can email me on [email protected]
Till next week!
