EXTREME SPORTS IN 1926

Forget about averting an air crash - this film was clearly staged.

But it doesn’t take away anything from the courage and skill of the woman who performed this stunt in 1926. Her name was Gladys Ingles, and she was one of a select band of barnstormers called Wing Walkers. Other popular aerialists included Charles Lindbergh and Mabel Cody, niece of Buffalo Bill.

Note that Gladys was not wearing a parachute …

Self evidently, mortality rates were high.

Gladys was part of a troupe called the 13 Black Cats - but she clearly had more than 9 lives and defied the odds to live to the grand age of 82.
